Skills For Life

Skills for Life

Golf United uses the sport of Golf as a catalyst for community development within our catchment area.

Specifically Golf United provides facilities for golf coaching and equipment for volunteers to work within our community, enhancing community cohesion as well as the personal physical and physiological development of various age groups. We specifically work in local primary schools after school hours and community and voluntary groups within the geographical remit of Derry City and Strabane Council; irrespective of religious denomination or social and cultural backgrounds.

We also outreach programmes to labour intensive workforce's and shift workers to learn new skills and provide a "live-well - work-well" programme; and local successful young golfers to act as mentors for the school students.

We provide integrated golf tournaments on neutral territory for all participants in the Golf United programmes; interdenominational golf tournaments on neutral territory; social events at the golf club; opportunities to socialise and learn new skills and play together.

  • Develop key life skills such as integrity, honesty, respect, problem solving, safety, resilience and teamwork;

  • Mark the children’s achievements each season with a celebration event in the City of Derry Golf Club complex, to which all participating schoolchildren and some of the teaching staff will be invited;

  • Develop a similar programme for other groups in our city.
